Sanders
County abounds in beautiful Mountain trails- accessible by atv, horse, mountain
bike, and of course, foot.
There is no better way to see
the magnificent splendor of the region. The very popular and historic bike
trail, Route of the Hiawatha,
is just a quick, scenic, 1 hour away
Wildlife
will greet you throughout the county. Including one of the West's largest
gathering of Bighorn Sheep. Visible year round from Highway 200, in-between Plains and Thompson Falls.
Hunters and Fishermen: You've found your Paradise! Black
Bear, Elk, Whitetail and Mule Deer, Bighorn Sheep, Moose, Ducks, Geese, and
Grouse are just some of the wildlife available. You'll find a variety of
fish in the many lakes, rivers and streams throughout the area as well.

Each Labor Day weekend, the Sanders County Fair comes to Plains and brings with it fun activities for the entire family including Carnival rides and games, arts and crafts, 4H livestock show and auction, food, parade, PRCA rodeo, and Demolition Derby.

Winter Activities
Montana winters bring with it unbelievable scenes that consist of beautiful
displays of nature at it finest.
Sanders County is a popular destination for all winter action junkies, but an
especial treat for snowmobilers. The Thompson pass, located approximately
20 miles from Thompson Falls, closes each year and creates a fun and easy
snowmobile adventure to the town of
Murray, Idaho. Sanders County is a quick 1 hour drive to any of these
fantastic ski resorts: Lookout Pass , Snowbowl
and Blacktail Mountain.
